Capital

Capital is the initial investment before any interest, capital gains/losses, and any other changes. Capital may also be referred to as initial investment, principal, or in the case of bonds and stocks may sometimes be called face value or par value. It is useful to calculate and track your capital, noting any further investments and reinvestments in order to track the course of your overall wealth and net investment returns.

Synonyms: Initial investment, Face value, Principal, Corpus
