Commodity Index

A commodity index measures either the performance of spot commodities prices or the price of commodity futures contracts that are traded on an exchange. An example of a commodity index is the Dow Jones UBS Commodity Index which is a broad commodity index that is calculated off commodity futures prices. There are ETFs and mutual fund products which follow this index as well as enhanced index funds on this and similar indexes.
