A contrarian is an investor that believes and does the opposite of what most other investors are doing - taking a go against the crowd approach: "be bold when others are scared, be scared when others are bold, sell when people are buying, buy when people are selling". Investors who take a contrarian approach are well suited to the value investing style, e.g. favoring those stocks that are out of favor.

Synonyms: Deep value investor, Value investor
