FTSE 100 Index

The FTSE 100 Index tracks the 100 largest UK companies that have their shares traded on the LSE (London Stock Exchange). This index thus has a large cap focus, and is one of the most widely tracked indexes for UK stocks, indeed those with only a passing involvement in the UK market will likely only monitor this key index. As the FTSE 100 index has a large-cap stock focus, it is good for benchmarking against most UK funds, especially those with a focus on this end of the market, but also more broadly UK - as the movements of these top stocks will likely influence the broader market movements. Note most people pronounce FTSE as "footsie".

Synonyms: FTSE, LSE, UK index
