The NASD is an American organization; the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. The organisation is a self-regulatory body (i.e. industry driven regulation rather than government regulated), that has authority over firms that distribute/sell mutual fund shares, and other investment products, and securities like stocks and bonds. The NASD enforces codes of conduct and rules, and sets minimum competency standards (e.g. exams) for its members. The NASD has been superseded by FINRA - the new regulatory body.

Synonyms: Self-regulatory body, National Association of Securities Dealers
