GBX is a symbol/code used for the penny sterling (i.e. 1/100 of a pound), which is a subdivision of the pound sterling (the official currency for the United Kingdom). The code GBX specifically is used to indicate that stocks and other securities are traded in pence rather than pounds - this explains the use of the code GBX instead of the ISO 4217 symbol, GBP.

Synonyms: Penny Sterling, GBP, Pound sterling
