The Nikkei 225 (Japanese: 日経平均株価) is the main index on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE). The Nikkei 225 is a price-weighted average, with components reviewed annually. The Nikkei 225 index was founded on the 7th of September 1950 by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) newspaper, which still compiles and maintains the index. The other main index on the TSE is the S&P/TOPIX 150.
